For the longest time, I desired to be a writer. Now that my kids are grown, married, and have their own kids, I’m able to spend time writing. At work I always tried to take on writing assignments. I enjoy handwritten letters, sending letters and cards to families and friends around the holidays. I have several friends whom I correspond to regularly. Most recently, I’m working on writing children’s books.
I have always been a storyteller. When I was six year’s old, my mother dropped us off at DePaul Settlement House Day Care. The Day Care would walk us to St. Vincent DePaul Catholic School about a few blocks away. Everyday I would make up a story for my friend Patty De Sotto. She would always find me as we were walking to school and ask me for a story. One day she told me that I always say “and then” a lot in my stories. She was my very first fan and critic.
Growing up, I told stories to my brother, sister, and cousins. As a mother, I told bedtime stories to my children. Many of these stories I shared about our family history. Now I have four grandchildren, and I’m sharing stories with them too.
